A federal audit found Arkansas mishandled thousands of reports of child abuse and neglect, including allegations of rape and video surveillance in children’s bedrooms.

The Sept. 29 report from the Office of Inspector General in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services surveyed 27,690 reports the Arkansas’ Division of Children and Family Services rejected and 21,268 reports it accepted between Oct. 1, 2023, and Sept. 30, 2024.
