The New Mexico Department of Justice on Friday gave state lawmakers dozens of legislative and policy suggestions to reform the state’s troubled child welfare agency.

In a lengthy presentation to the interim Courts, Corrections and Justice Committee, NMDOJ Special Counsel Sean Sullivan told lawmakers that his department has linked 14 child deaths in the last two years to failures in the Children, Youth and Families Department.
