Rick Crosson, a retired U.S. Army officer and former Green Bay school board member, won the Democratic Party nomination Tuesday to challenge Republican U.S. Rep. Tony Weid in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District.

Counting ballots for the Democratic primary in the district stretched past midnight. At 12:08 a.m. Wednesday, the Associated Press called the race for Crosson. With 99% of ballots counted, Crosson had 35% of the vote.
