U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer, R-Hoover, won the Republican special primary for Alabama’s 6th Congressional District Tuesday, defeating physical therapist assistant Case Dixon.

As of 9:11 p.m., Palmer, who has held the seat since 2014, had 6,998 votes (85.19%) in unofficial returns. Dixon had 1,217 votes (14.81%).

Palmer will face former Pelham City Councilman Maurice Mercer, who won the Democratic nomination for the seat on Tuesday.
